I moved to the Pacific Northwest from the east coast about 7 years ago and am so grateful to be surrounded by mountains, the ocean, and doug fir trees! I love surfing, hiking, reading, and walking around the neighborhood with my pups.
I have two dogs: Pip is my first born, and Misha is my Surfers for Strays rescue. Pip is mischievous, playful, neurotic, and oh-so-sweet. He has quite the reputation around the neighborhood. Misha is the sweetest and most soulful dog. He loves affection and chasing squirrels. Thankfully, Pip and Misha love each other - in large part due to the fact that I introduced them slowly as suggested by Surfers for Strays!
I met Misha in Mexico while he was under the care of his foster-mom, Maura, and recovering from surgery. I instantly knew he had to be a part of my family. I was so impressed by the lengths that everyone affiliated with Surfers for Strays went to make sure that he survived after he was hit by a vehicle. Surfers for Strays continued to wow me through the adoption process. They were responsive, thorough, and clearly cared about all the dogs in their program. I wanted to help in their mission and started volunteering about a year and a half ago.
During my time with Surfers for Strays, I've processed adoption applications and matched dogs with their furever families, helped coordinate flights for dogs, transported dogs to and from the airport, acted as a flight escort (one time I flew with 7 dogs!) and volunteered at sterilization campaigns in Mexico. It's been such a fulfilling experience and I've met some really amazing people who I hope to remain in close contact with for years to come.
